The Top 10 Spoon Songs & a Band Retrospective

#2 The Way We Get By

Getting high. Breaking into mobile homes. A dis of the White Stripes (which Daniel would later change his tune) and love of Har Mar. Belief in one’s self. It’s the hedonism of Austin in a pop song that would then be played all over television for years after it’s release in 2002.

Britt Daniel began to experiment with piano on Kill the Moonlight, and it paid off with this track and Small Stakes. With Kill the Moonlight, Spoon were no longer an unknown band from Austin, but not as large as the impact of 2005’s Gimme Fiction.
